Len Blavatnik takes being an investor to a whole new level. He’s a smart investor that has made a fortune through diversified investments. He mainly targets media and digital companies. He is currently estimated by Forbes to have a net worth of $20.4 Billion. He has recently been dubbed “Britain’s Richest Man” despite being only 58 years old and having an atypical upbringing.

He was born in Ukraine, but raised in Moscow. Although he was enrolled in Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, he failed to obtain a degree as his education was interrupted when his family requested immigration visas to the US. He immigrated to the US in 1978. After this, he resumed his studies and finally managed to obtain a Master’s degree in computer science from Columbia University. He also went on to acquire an MBA from the well-known Harvard Business School in 1989.

He is the current chairman and president of Access Industries. Access Industries is a conglomerate company that Blavatnik founded in 1986. It’s based in New York. The company has long-term strategic holdings in Europe, North and South America. Currently, the company holds investments in a wide range of industries, such as entertainment, coal, oil, petrochemicals, aluminum, media, telecommunications, real estate, and plastics.

Blavatnik is also the founder of the Family Foundation called after that name. It helps sustain a wide variety of leading institutions in various parts of the world. The most prominent of these institutions are located in the United States and Europe. They range from philanthropic institutions to educational and scientific ones. It has also served as the primary benefactor of various major art and cultural exhibitions over the past 15 years.

Some of these include the British Museum, Tate Modern, Royal Opera House, National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art. It has also been supporting the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists since 2007. In 2010, the foundation donated £75 million to the University of Oxford to build the Blavatnik School of government. In 2013, the Blavatnik foundation donated $50 million to Harvard University to sponsor life sciences entrepreneurship.

Apart from his career and philanthropic pursuits, Blavatnik is known for his love of art. He paid $14 million for a wooly mammoth by Damien Hirst at a charity auction during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. He is also known to host annual lunches with Harvey Weinstein on his yacht during the Cannes Film Festival.
